What If You’ve Been Collecting the Wrong Evidence? Do You Even Know Yourself Anymore? Mini Series Ep 6

Shannon Danielle Episode 97

What if the evidence you’ve been collecting isn’t the whole truth? In this episode of the Do You Even Know Yourself Anymore? series, we explore how old beliefs shape what you see - and how awareness gives you the power to choose a different story.   Here’s the tricky part about beliefs: once you accept one, your brain will collect evidence to prove it true. “The world isn’t safe.” “Rest is lazy.” “I have to put everyone else first.” And every time life gives you proof, the story gets stronger - even if it’s not the whole truth.

I share a recent experience where one of my deepest old beliefs almost pulled me back into hiding, and how I chose differently instead. Because when you see the belief → evidence → fear loop for what it is, you finally have the power to choose another way.

💜 Reflection Questions from this episode:

  • What old belief or story do I notice myself still carrying?
  • What “evidence” have I been collecting that makes this belief feel true?
  • Is that evidence the whole story — or just part of it?
  • What might shift if I allowed myself to believe something different?

Speaker 1:

Welcome back to the Pure Possibilities podcast. Last week we took a little pause in the Do you Even Know Yourself Anymore? Series for something really special a live interview and community reading with my dear friend, michelle McGuire, who is a psychic medium and childhood trauma healer. If you were able to join us for that, you know how incredibly powerful it was. Today we're stepping back into our series.

Speaker 1:

So far, we've explored what happens when life changes and you lose yourself, the masks we wear, what it looks like when we forget to ask what we need, and how our bodies are always communicating with us. Today we're going to go a little deeper into beliefs and old patterns we've been carrying, the ones that quietly shape how we see ourselves and the world around us. The tricky thing about beliefs is that once we accept them, our brain starts collecting evidence to prove them to be true, and sometimes that evidence is exactly what holds us back and keeps us disconnected and honestly stops us from moving forward towards our dreams, goals and desires and actually creating the life that we want to live. So today we're asking what if you've been collecting the wrong evidence? I'm finding that for me, one of the strongest old beliefs I've carried since childhood is that the world isn't safe. I grew up hearing messages that danger was everywhere, that people are scary, the world is scary, that everything is unsafe and that programming is still showing up for me even now. That programming is still showing up for me even now and it's becoming more and more prevalent as I continue down the path that I'm on with increased visibility publicly and really putting myself out there into the world to help people.

Speaker 1:

And recently I decided to do something that felt kind of big and vulnerable because I realized I had this pattern coming up where I was honestly only really putting myself out there within the podcasting community group and less like on my general social media. Obviously, I put myself out there here on the podcast, but I had really been honestly keeping myself safe in the community. And so last week I went live on my Facebook page and posted on Instagram and announced that I was doing this live podcast recording and not long after I was informed that a company stole my content and put it out into the world before I had even put it out and they stole it. I felt violated and disgusted and immediately my brain said see, the world isn't safe. You put yourself out there and look what happened. Because I was going back and forth realizing that I had this pattern going on and I was like nope, shannon, you've got to do this, you've got to do this. Put yourself out there, make this announcement, put this link out there for people to register. You want to help people, and I did.

Speaker 1:

And immediately I was shown evidence that the world is unsafe and scary and people do bad things, and the evidence. For a moment, honestly, I felt like I wanted to pull back and shrink myself back down and hide again. And the evidence is always lining up with the story that we're telling. It only proved what I already believed. It only proved what I already believed. And that's where the awareness comes in, because once I saw the pattern, I have a choice. Once you realize these things are happening, you have a choice. So I could have taken that evidence and decided that, yes, the world is unsafe and scary and people are mean and rude and disgusting and do things that are completely unauthorized without my permission, and I could have pulled back because I had proof, I had evidence of that, or I could use this as an opportunity to not allow it to stop me to use my voice even more to help educate people that if you create a link and you put it out on social media, somebody can take that information and scrape screen, record your content and put it out into the world without your permission. I did send them a cease and desist and they did pull down my content. However, in my opinion, it shouldn't even been available on their website to begin with, because it wasn't theirs and they didn't ask my permission to use it. So that's where you have that opportunity to pause and make a decision. Do I step forward into my growth and expansion or do I step back and shrink back? My nervous system was having a heyday, because your nervous system wants to keep you safe and protected, because the unknown is scary, and so I put myself out there. I had the evidence and then I pulled right back and then I decided no, that's not what I'm going to do. I'm going to use this for good and I'm going to now be aware of myself that this could happen and put in more precautions going forward, and also I can help other people hopefully have that not happen to them. So, instead of shrinking, I went live into my community and I apologized to the people who had participated. I shared what happened so others could learn from it. And I kept going.

Speaker 1:

The power of catching yourself in the loop of belief, evidence, fear, and then shrink when you see it. You can always choose another way. You have the choice to believe the thoughts that you're having. You have the choice to believe all of. I mean, not only was this evidence in my mind that the world is safe and safe and scary, it was also coming to light that, because we live 90 to 95% of our days in our old programming, our old beliefs, that once those come to the surface on a conscious level, that's where the shifts can happen. That's where the change and the growth can happen. Because now I have this awareness that I didn't have before. So this is how beliefs and patterns keep us stuck. They don't just shape how we see the world, they shape how we see ourselves in the world.

Speaker 1:

If you believe that you are unworthy, you'll ignore your own needs. If you believe that you're only valuable when you're achieving something, you will burn yourself out to prove it. If you believe people will always leave you, look for reasons to not trust. I've had that happen too. That literally happened in my last long-term relationship. I didn't trust the person that I was with. I wanted to, but deep down I didn't, and I kept looking for evidence that they were going to cheat on me and they were going to leave. And you know what happened they did. Every time something happens, you'll file it away as proof, as evidence, even when it's not the whole story.

Speaker 1:

So the awareness doesn't erase the belief overnight, but it gives you back your power to pause and ask do I want to keep choosing this story or is there another one I'd rather live by? Because you can choose to believe the scary story and you can also choose to believe a story that's not as scary. You can choose to use whatever that lesson is, because we don't get to decide. The lessons are always coming in right. We're always being presented with lessons to move us forward into our highest potential and our soul calling and purpose. We can choose to learn from the lessons or we can choose not to, and so we don't get to decide how the lessons are delivered. It's not always comfortable, it's not always fun, and also we need those to move us forward into the highest, most magnificent version of ourselves.

Speaker 1:

So let's dive into our reflection questions for this week. Again, if you have some paper available, you can write these down, or, if you just want to take a moment to pause and take these in what old belief or story do I notice myself still carrying belief or story do I notice myself still carrying? What quote, unquote evidence have I been collecting that makes this belief feel true? It doesn't mean it's true, but what makes it feel true for you Is that evidence, the whole story or just part of it? And what might I shift if I allowed myself to believe something different? Your beliefs will always try to prove themselves right, but you are not your old stories, you are not the thoughts that you think. Awareness is the beginning of choice, and choice is where everything changes. All right, this was, this was such a powerful growth week for me. I can hardly tell you. I've had so many things coming up for me recently that I'm moving through and it's just showing that there is a version of me that is literally being called forward, and the older version of me and the thoughts and limiting beliefs like they're trying to hold me back in safety rather than moving forward. And that's what happens, because staying in that comfort zone is easier. But it's not. Just because it's comfortable doesn't mean it's right for you. You always get to choose.

Okay, we're gonna pull a card from the Magic of what If card deck volume. Ooh, this is volume one. We're gonna do volume one today. They are available on my website, purepossibilitiespodcastcom, or you can get them directly from the magic of what if store, shoppurepossibilitiesnet.

Speaker 1:

Okay, today's message is what if I'm always exactly where I'm meant to be?

Speaker 1:

What if I'm always exactly where I'm meant to be? What if I'm always exactly where I'm meant to be? Kind of goes along with the lessons. It doesn't always feel like we're exactly where we're meant to be, but whatever is happening right now, in your current, present moment, is happening for your highest good, even when it doesn't feel like it in the moment. Even when it doesn't feel like it in the moment, we don't get to decide how the lessons are brought forth to us, and it can feel uncomfortable and it can feel scary and it doesn't always feel good. And also on the other side of that is where the magic is happening.

Speaker 1:

As you move through the week, notice the moments where your brain says see, this always happens and, instead of taking it as a fact, pause. Ask yourself is that really true or am I just collecting evidence for an old belief that no longer fits me. Next week, we're going to explore identity and self-worth, how the stories you carry about who you are and what you deserve show up in your choices, your relationships and how connected you feel to yourself and how connected you feel to yourself. Until then, breathe, notice and remember. You are not your old evidence, you are not your thoughts, you are not your beliefs. You always, always get to choose. Have a beautiful, beautiful day and an amazing week, much love.
